Material is offered to ASTM, EN and JIS grades, with mill test certificates on request. Stock serials and cut lengths are confirmed at enquiry — heavy and non-standard sections are sourced against the mill programme.
What is Structural Steel?
Structural steel is rolled or formed into standard shapes so that designers can size members from published section properties. Beams and columns carry bending and axial load. Angles and channels frame openings, bracing and secondary steel. Hollow sections are used for columns, trusses and architectural frames. Plate and bar are cut for gussets, base plates and built-up members.

BS 4 · bending members
Parallel-flange UB to BS 4-1:2005. Serials from 127 × 76 × 13 up to 1016 × 305 × 487, including 203, 254, 305, 356, 406, 457, 533, 610, 686, 762, 838 and 914 series.
Universal Columns
BS 4 · columns
Near-square UC for axial load. Typical serials 152 × 152, 203 × 203, 254 × 254, 305 × 305 and 356 × 368 / 356 × 406, masses from about 23 kg/m to the heavy 356 UC series.
American Wide Flange
ASTM A6 · A992
W-shapes to ASTM A6, commonly A992 or A572 Gr.50. Nominal depths from W4 through W44, with the W8 to W14 and W16 to W30 groups used most often in industrial frames.
Metric beams
EN 10365 · IPE / HE
IPE 80 to IPE 600, and HEA / HEB / HEM from 100 upward. Also metric beam and column (MB / UC) designations used in older Asian mill lists.
Equal and unequal angles
EN 10056 · bracing
Hot-rolled angles to EN 10056-1 and JIS. Equal angles from about 25 × 25 × 3 mm to 200 × 200 × 24 mm. Unequal angles from 40 × 25 up to 200 × 150.
Channels and UPN
PFC · UPN · taper

Structural plate and sections are often called up under more than one national grade. The mapping below is the usual commercial correspondence used by regional mills. It is a buying guide, not a substitution approval — impact, thickness and delivery condition still have to match the project specification.

ASTM A992 is the usual grade for W-shapes in building work and is not a direct line in the plate-grade table above. Weldable structural steels for buildings in Japan are specified under JIS G3136 (SN series), which controls yield ratio and through-thickness performance more tightly than SS400.
Where it is Used
Structural shapes from this range go into pipe racks, equipment platforms, warehouses, commercial frames, bridges and temporary works. Hollow sections and purlins cover roof secondary steel. Sheet piles cover excavation support. Stainless laser-fused beams are used where carbon steel would need a coating that the process cannot accept.
Typical project documents ask for S275 or S355 to EN 10025, SS400 to JIS G3101, or A36 / A572 / A992 to ASTM. Tell us the member mark, grade, length and whether a 3.1 certificate is required.
